I'm pleased to tell you that your salary for next year, starting on the anniversary day of your employment, will be increased 5% to reflect the cost-of-living increase, plus an additional 8% merit increase based on the achievements and increased skills we discussed at your appraisal meeting.  This brings your salary to $37,500 next year.
